Chapter 19: Empires in Collision 

The chapter starts with China whereto Chinese emperor Qianlong that rejected Britain wanting a less restricted trading relationship in 1793.  Qianlong believed that there was no need to import the manufactures of outside barbarians. In 1912, China’s imperial state collapsed during the time Great Britain was a key player in economics and politics.  This led China to become weak and was a major change for China becoming highly civilized and then losing it all. This led China to have issues on land, small farms, unemployment, impoverishment, misery, and starvation. The western influence is now being pressed around the world. China is then involved by building the relationship with Europe leading to the Opium wars. The comparison of the Ottoman Empire and china was made being an Islamic neighbor in the geographical area of Europe. Both of these countries were not under direct colonial rule, however was destroyed while there was a global power change. Japan is then rising in power during the nineteenth century. Japan also challenged the European power by confronting U.S. Matthew Perry demanding Japan to open up to normal relations with the world.
