Week 2
Chapter 13
In class, we talk with Europeans were starting to to explore and why they had an advantage. At first, I
thought they were exploring to see what else is out in the world. In reality, they wanted to find a
better way to get into the Indian ocean trade. I then remembered back to learning about Columbus
and how Spain wanted to find a way to India for spices. I didi not know that the Indian Ocean trade
was also called the Sea Road even though it is self explanatory. We then went on about how China
was unmotivated by going to The Americas because they were good where they were. Then it got to
the information that we learned in earlier years of schooling about the Native Americans. We then
went to discussion about Europe and if acted upon genocide to the Native americans. During the
discussion our groups I accidentally said Indians rather than Native Americans. I then corrected
myself and just remember back to third grade when I made a model scene about Native Americans,
but during the time I remember calling them Indians and learned that the Indians were living in The
Americas. This goes back to when some still believed in Columbus's point of view and how he
thought he found India and calling them Indians.
Chapter 14 Part 1
Last class, we ended with a chart that showed what Spain in South America, Brazil in the Caribbean,
And North America did in The Americas. it showed who landed where, what resource was taken,
who worked the extracting process, and the demographic impact of the land. On Thursday, we started
with filling out the chart without looking at our notes. I knew what was on the chart but didn't have a
clue where each thing went. We then went over 3 ways Europeans tried to get into the Indian Ocean
Trade. What the Portugal did was not a bad idea with taking areas around the Indian Ocean Trade and
make trading post, but the method led to piracy and basically being bullies. Spain took over the
Philippines because it wasn't hard and it was close to the Indian Ocean. We then talked about howe
Trump called other country "Shit-holes" even though it is because of the wealthier countries that
made them this but dumping all the bad stuff to them. Finally there was the more popular and used
today method called "The Companies" where you would get government support and protection.
Transition to the fur trade, France had a mutual relationship with the Native Americans witch led to
health problems, and lost of tradition fro the Native Americans. With the Russians, they took over
Serbia to expand not making it mutual and having them give fur to keep peace.
