Week 6
Movement for Independence
We started in class talking about the problems of Eurocentrism and the Catholic church perspective
on colonialism. The main point that stuck to me about Eurocentrism is the point about who decides
what is correct or not. We tend to favorites Europeans making them seem superior to the other when
there is clearly other achievements in the world that isn't in Europe. when i think of other
achievements, another country created that is used today is the Chinese and how they created
Fireworks. We then talked about the Catholic church in their thoughts colonialism. We talked about
"social sin/ structural evil" which is when something is accepted by society but is not right or just.
When thinking about today, most of the production of our technology is a great example of this in the
current day. We buy the things we want and not think of how it was made. most of our products are
not even made over here and is assembled in other countries where there is less restriction and able to
make labor cost go down. Everyone knows this is something that goes on in our society, but we still
support it when we buy theses products. Other products that are the same reaction is our clothes,
shoes, food, and supplies. The thought in where the future may see this a something horrible that we
did like us seeing what the past has done as well.
