Chapter 20

In the 20th century, there where many crisis and collapses of systems that were in place but were

starting to see a negative affect in society. This consisted of the Industrial revolution, democracy,

capitalism, and the economy. The events that were talked about was Wold War I and II, the Great

Depression, rise of Fascism, the Holocaust/ Genocide, Hiroshima and the creation of Nuclear

Weapons, and the cold war. With the world wars,  there was global conflict with the different

relationships snd how alliances were created making a split wether voluntarily or forced. The war had

created more industrialized weapons and created a new way of war called trench warfare. the great

depression was an event that showed how capitalism failed causing an economic crash due to the

unregulation. The rise of fascism was due to some countries needing a powerful leader to guide the

country. This led to authoritarianism where they would work on building the people to be

nationalistic. The holocaust is the example of this system with Hitler wanting to make a third Roman

Empire defining what it meant to be Aryan that created a split between them and the Jews. hitler used

his strong charismatic characteristics to persuade the people to hate the Jewish people. Hiroshima was

the beginning of the era of nuclear weapons where the U.S. dropped two Nuclear bombs on Japan

killing regular people that were just living their lives. Even in America, the Japanese people were

suspected and were sent to camps. Nuclear weapons are still around today and is still causing

conflicts. The Cold War is when the powerful countries didn't physically fight but did have conflict.

Even today the Cold War conflicts can be seen to rise in the Middle East.
