Week 13

Chapter 23  Strayer starting with the picture of a space view of the Earth has many meanings behind it. I believe  the photo represents how if we look from an outside perspective we are one, but getting closer we are  divided and have different views.  Strayer talks about Anthropocene which broken up means Human  Era. this Era is where Human history is also affecting Earths history. As humans are progressing, we  are creating products that are either destroying or replacing the Earth's material. We as a society is  playing the role of God and controlling what is made or destroyed. The prime example is our cars  where we are releasing pollution into the atmosphere. However, we are changing that by making  hybrids or fully electric cars. Humans are also recreating land masses like island, rivers, hills, and  many more. We have even built cities on top of landfills that hit its maximum capacity. The chapte...

Week 12

Chapter 21  In chapter 21, the book talks about the two main communistic countries that rose. These countries  were Russia and China. In the definition of Communism from Marx, there were only two ways to  make change to capitalism in where the people come together to reform or to violently act for the  change. however, for a Country to rebel and come communist, the country has to industrialize. This is  where Russia and China become interesting because they were not industrialized but rather more  traditional but were able to skip the step and become communist. The main goal for communism was  to have equality to everyone. This included women where they were given more rights then the other  countries that weren't communist. the chapter then goes into the Cold War where the two power  houses of the world were the Soviet Union and the U.S. the war was wars against other countries that  the two power ...

Chapter 20  In the 20th century, there where many crisis and collapses of systems that were in place but were  starting to see a negative affect in society. This consisted of the Industrial revolution, democracy,  capitalism, and the economy. The events that were talked about was Wold War I and II, the Great  Depression, rise of Fascism, the Holocaust/ Genocide, Hiroshima and the creation of Nuclear  Weapons, and the cold war. With the world wars,  there was global conflict with the different  relationships snd how alliances were created making a split wether voluntarily or forced. The war had  created more industrialized weapons and created a new way of war called trench warfare. the great  depression was an event that showed how capitalism failed causing an economic crash due to the  unregulation. The rise of fascism was due to some countries needing a powerful leader to guide the  country. T...

week 10

Chapter 19: Empires in Collision  The chapter starts with China whereto Chinese emperor Qianlong that rejected Britain wanting a less restricted trading relationship in 1793.  Qianlong believed that there was no need to import the manufactures of outside barbarians. In 1912, China’s imperial state collapsed during the time Great Britain was a key player in economics and politics.  This led China to become weak and was a major change for China becoming highly civilized and then losing it all. This led China to have issues on land, small farms, unemployment, impoverishment, misery, and starvation. The western influence is now being pressed around the world. China is then involved by building the relationship with Europe leading to the Opium wars. The comparison of the Ottoman Empire and china was made being an Islamic neighbor in the geographical area of Europe. Both of these countries were not under direct colonial rule, however was destroyed while ther...

Week 9

Second Wave of European Conquests and Documents  Industrial Revolution created a capitalistic culture that turned into the European second-wave of        colonial initiatives. Europeans found a beneficial way to boost their economy by foreign investments  and global imperialism. The Industrial Revolution led Europeans to believe they were superior and  the other cultures were uncivilized like animals. Social Darwinism was used to explain the Europeans  superiority.  they viewed different places a feminine being weak and incapable.  The Europeans were  still taking over socially weak areas while competing against each other making then the "Great  Power." Vietnam lifestyle was affected negatively with the violence disturbing their peace. While  others like Africa cooperated creating status, employment, wealth, and inspiration for education. this  also led to rebellions due to the same...

Week 7

WEEK 7 This week we stared with answering questions in teams where we split by a blue line where the boys were on the left and the girls on the right. There were rules that limited the girls to speak out loud and able to only use one book with no paper or pencil. The questions were about what we have learned so far in the course but with the restriction the boys were winning. The girls then found a way to answer with Siri, but the boys were already too ahead. It was obvious this was not fare and the winner was not going to get the actual prize because that wouldn't be academically fare. In the end, we talked about how we felt about this and both sides agreed that if they had the upper hand, they would definitely take it and benefit with it. I then thought about the theory where humans are just naturally evil. Ideally we would think humans will help the other knowing something is not fare, but i this example, whoever had the advantage would use if for themselves....

Week 6

Movement for Independence  We started in class talking about the problems of Eurocentrism and the Catholic church perspective     on colonialism. The main point that stuck to me about Eurocentrism is the point about who decides  what is correct or not. We tend to favorites Europeans making them seem superior to the other when  there is clearly other achievements in the world that isn't in Europe. when i think of other  achievements, another country created that is used today is the Chinese and how they created  Fireworks. We then talked about the Catholic church in their thoughts colonialism. We talked about  "social sin/ structural evil" which is when something is accepted by society but is not right or just.  When thinking about today, most of the production of our technology is a great example of this in the  current day. We buy the things we want and not think of how it was made.  most of our p...
